So, the New York City Board of Health recently approved restrictions on size restrictions on sweetened beverages. This is the most recent example of government action to improve health through bans or restrictions. Time will tell if it is successful. In the meantime, it has generated a good deal of discussion about the role of government in health promotion and the best way to get people to eat a healthier diet.
There was an excellent segment on NPR’s Talk of the Nation about government food bans last Friday featuring two experts on the topic, Marion Nestle and Brian Wansink. It is worth a listen if you missed it.
